Flying with a 5.5 month old

It took 26 hours, but we finally made it to the US from Australia!  Henry was an absolute star!

The first flight was eight hours to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. We got the seats with the baby bassinet, but Henry would not sleep in there.Plus, every time the seat belt sign went on, they made me put the special baby seat belt on him on my lap, so it was easier just to hold him the entire time. Thank goodness I had the Boppy Nursing Pillow, otherwise my arms would have turned to jelly!  He did cry a little bit, and Mark and I had to take turns walking up and down the aisle with him, but he did sleep a little bit and overall the flight was a success.

After a three hour layover in Hong Kong, it was the 15 hour mother of a flight to New York.  This was Continental and the seat with the bassinet was taken, so instead they gave us a row of three, with the middle seat empty.  This turned out to be better than having the bassinet anyway.  Much more room! The first half of the flight Henry slept a little and played a little (we brought a few toys for him).  The second half of the flight he slept the entire time for 7 hours straight! It was very difficult for me to sleep (just couldn't sleep well sitting up), but at least Henry got a nice long snooze.

In my opinion, Continental was much better than Cathay Pacific.  They didn't make me put Henry in the baby seat belt and their seats were more comfortable.  Breastfeeding on the plane was a lifesaver and neither flight had any qualms about it at all.

Now all we have to get Henry acclimated to the time change (he went to bed at 12:30 am and now it's 8:30 am and he's still sleeping)!  I probably won't be posting much over the next two weeks because as you know, I am in the US!
